Isaiah 58:14 Then will you delight yourself in the Lord, and I will make you to ride on the high places of the earth, and I will feed you with the heritage [promised for you] of Jacob your father; for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.
When we delight in the Lord, the reward will be to ride on the high places of the earth and be feed with the heritage of Jacob. So what does mean?
Amos 4:13 says that God treads the high places of earth. High places in the bible were places of worship, where God met with man. One definition of the word ride is to be carried or supported by something with a great deal of momentum. God has the ability to carry and support us in the high places where He walks. As we deal properly with the things He has entrusted to us on earth, He rewards us by raising us up to the high places. This is where true fellowship with Him occurs.
The next part of the reward is to be feed with the heritage of Jacob. This is referring to the covenant promises given to Abraham, then Isaac, then Jacob and the nation of Israel. You partake of this covenant through your relationship with Jesus. They include health and prosperity for you and your children. You can read Deuteronomy 28 for more about the blessing of the covenant.
Deuteronomy 32 13-14 describes what happen when God made Israel ride on the high places of the earth. He ate the produce of the field; had honey and olive oil, butter and curds of cows, milk of the flock, fat of lambs and rams, and goats, the finest of wheat and wine. In other words, he had abundance and prosperity.
The Old Testament covenant was based on the promise of a savior. As New Testament believers we have received the promise, Jesus. He fulfilled the covenant and is now seated in high places. Ephesians says He is seated far above all principalities and powers and might and dominion. That is some high places. And you are right there too, riding the high places with Him.
Spend some time in worship today, and let Him carry you to His high places.
