Spring Cleaning: Make your Chrome Shine Again

Faucets, towel bars, shower heads, hinges all covered with shiny chrome. Beautiful until soap scum and water spots! Here are 4 cleaning methods to get them back in shape and shining once again. Since chrome is a soft metal, It can be scratched even by a scouring pad, so avoid using one on stubborn stains.

Dish soap and water: Add dish soap to a bucket of warm water, use a soft cloth or nonabrasive sponge and scrub. Rinse the cloth or sponge frequently Use an old toothbrush to clean any creases or crevices. Finish up by rinsing the metal with clean water.

Vinegar and water: Use a one to one ratio of distilled white vinegar and water. . The acidity in the vinegar dissolves even long-established grime.

Lemons: Scrub your chrome using the pith of the lemon. It won’t hurt to apply a little pressure here. If you have a lot of hard water staining or buildup, let the lemon juice sit on the fixtures for three to five minutes. Wipe away any juice or pith that has been left behind with a soft cloth.

Baking soda: Mix together baking soda with about a teaspoon of distilled water to form a paste. Spread the paste on your fixtures. Use a soft cloth to wipe the paste away, applying gentle pressure as you go. Rinse the remaining paste and any residue off of your fixtures with distilled water. (Applying tap water will just leave behind fresh mineral deposits.) Buff the fixtures dry
