I turned 60! It's hard to believe, I know.
Usually, my birthdays come and go with just a nod to growing another year older. However, the transition from 59 to 60 started several months ago. I was feeling discouraged that 2/3 of my life was over and I was concerned about what I was going to do now. One morning, I heard the Lord say "You are going to have Sassy Sixty's"!
I had no idea what that meant, so I googled it. Dismissing definitions like rude, disrespectful and impudent as not being where the Lord was directing me, I moved on. The next definition was lively, bold and a little feisty, full of spirit. The last definition was distinctively smart and stylish, chic. That sounds more like it.
As I read through the synonyms, two caught my eye.
Audacious- intrepidly daring, adventurous, recklessly bold, marked by originality and verve (the spirit and enthusiasm animating artistic composition or performance)
Vibrant-full of life, energy, and enthusiasm.
My definition of Sassy Sixties
After giving these some thought and prayer, here's the definition I came up with: I will be lively, bold, audacious, vibrant, stylish, and a little feisty. I'm not sure who that is but I don't think that describes me!
Lively and bold? Some days my enthusiasm slowly drains away as the energy runs out and the body's aches and pains speak louder. Audacious? I'm not sure I want to trade in my comfort zone for intrepidly daring, adventurous and being recklessly bold! And stylish? I'm sitting here in my old comfy's, overweight and badly in need of a haircut This is going to take a miracle!
How is that going to happen?
As I sat there wondering how the Lord was going to take me from this to sassy, I was reminded of hearing one of my favorite speakers say we should ask the Lord for an adventure every day. With this phrase "you're going to have Sassy Sixties" ringing in my ears, I asked if that was true.
Our conversation went something like this:
Lord: Yes, I've been waiting for you to ask. I promised you years ago to take you on adventures.
Me: But I'm not sure I want that. I like sitting here in my comfortable chair sipping coffee. I'm not really the adventurous type.
Lord: YES you are! I know because I made you that way. You were created for adventure. Use the definitions you looked up when I told you I was going to start taking you on adventures. Write your decree and start declaring it!
So I wrote my decree based on the definition of adventure. Declaring it has become part of my morning devotional with God. I do want to be the person he created me to be; for Him, for me and for you. Because His way is always better than mine.
It's not just me.
God sees us so differently than we do ourselves. As we spend time with him, he shows us who we really are, who we are created to be. Once we embrace that person, then we can start to walk in the destiny and calling He has for our lives. Sixty seems a little late to get started, but I remind myself it is all about the journey and not the destination. God has been moving me to this point all along, I just didn't know it. Now that I do, it is up to me to cooperate with Him to make it happen. During the next few months, I'll be sharing how I plan to go from my present Frumpy Fifties to Sassy Sixties. So, I invite you to join me on this journey as I embark on this adventure.
And it is not just me. God has adventures designed for you and He is eagerly waiting for you to begin your next one. It doesn't matter how old you are, 20, 40, 60, 80, or 100, He wants to take you on adventures with Him. You only have to ask and be open to the experience. If you haven't already done so, go here to take the first step by asking Jesus into your heart and life.
If you are like me and not quite sure you are up to a new adventurous lifestyle, I've included my decree at the end of this post for you to print so you can declare it. Or write your own-I'd love to see it!
Job 22:28 says "Thou shalt also decree a thing, and it shall be established unto thee: and the light ( the favour of God) shall shine upon thy ways."
Lively, bold, audacious, vibrant, stylish, and a little feisty- I think we're gonna have lots to talk about!
Tell me about your birthdays. Have you had one that stood out to you or was particularly difficult to face? How did you handle it? I love hearing from you. Thanks for being part of my journey.
Here is my decree for you to download, print, and start decreeing. Then fill you sassy mug with your favorite fuel (mine's coffee) and see what the Lord has for you today!
