August One Word Journey

August One Word Journey

2023 Word of the Year: Intentional

As August started, I kept hearing "Seek, and you will find", over and over in my morning coffee time.  I was also seeing and hearing it every time I turned around.  So Intention Seeking became my focus for the month.

Thoughts from my Journal:

Seek- Strong's: I seek, search for, desire, require, demand, to seek by inquiring, to investigate, to reach a binding resolution, to search, "getting to the bottom" of a matter.

Thayer's Greek Lexicon: Seek in order to find. A merchant seeking beautiful pearls, something lost, a place of rest

Seeking the kingdom

To seek after, seek for, aim at, and strive after God's attitude and way of doing things.

To seek to promote the glory of God.

To attempt to establish, to seek to win souls, to seek the favor of God

What are you seeking today?  What is it that you wish?  You are seeking something every day - even if it is just to be left alone and chill.

Be honest about what you are seeking

     -with yourself

     -with God

Seeking to find

  • More than just prayer and believing you receive.  It takes action, physical effort of some kind.  Harvesting is seeking to find. You have to look through the leaves to find the fruit. Thrifting is going out and sorting through a bunch of stuff you can't use, seeking the treasure you can.
  • Seeking to find takes vision.  You need to know what you are seeking to know when you find it. Expect to find what you are seeking for.
  • Be open to finding what you didn't expect.  Surprises happen when you seek the kingdom.

Scriptures:

But first and most importantly seek (aim at, strive after) His kingdom and His righteousness [His way of doing and being right—the attitude and character of God], and all these things will be given to you also.         Matt. 6:33 AMP

“Ask and keep on asking and it will be given to you; seek and keep on seeking and you will find; knock and keep on knocking and the door will be opened to you.

For everyone who keeps on asking receives, and he who keeps on seeking finds, and to him who keeps on knocking, it will be opened.  Matt. 7:7-8  AMP

God’s kingdom isn’t a matter of what you put in your stomach, for goodness’ sake. It’s what God does with your life as he sets it right, puts it together, and completes it with joy. Your task is to single-mindedly serve Christ. Do that and you’ll kill two birds with one stone: pleasing the God above you and proving your worth to the people around you.  Romans 14:17-18 MSG

Quotes:

“We need not fear that in seeking God only we may narrow our lives or restrict the motions of our expanding hearts.” —A. W. Tozer

The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.—Marcel Proust

“No soul that seriously and constantly desires joy will ever miss it. Those who seek find. To those who knock it is opened.” — C. S. Lewis

“Seek and see all the marvels around you. You will get tired of looking at yourself alone, and that fatigue will make you deaf and blind to everything else. - Don Juan”

Discoveries along the way:

Asking God about my website. Should I continue even though it isn't self-supporting?  A tax accessor showed up at my door. Since I'm turning 65. I qualified for something that will cut my taxes by the amount I'm paying for my website.

Steve was seeking God about going back to work a couple of days a week.  A neighbor showed up at the door and said his son wanted to speak to Steve about a job.  He is now working 2 days a week and loving being back in the public with people.

Highlights & Review:

Weeding, harvesting, canning, and freezing took most of our time this month.  We did get out thrifting and made some great finds!

How is your year going with the One Word you chose?  I'd love to hear about it!
