Its Christmas Cookie Time!

Its Christmas Cookie Time!

Hey there! It's almost time to start your holiday baking.  I know it might seem a little early, but I just want to make sure you have plenty of time to get your cookie mixes ordered. TGC process all orders in the order they come in, usually within a couple of days. Just a heads up, during the holidays it might take a bit longer—up to 7 days in some cases. Plus, you'll want to factor in shipping time, too. So, it's a good idea to allow at least 2 weeks to get your order.  And if you order 8 mixes you will get free shipping!

Once upon a time, Christmas gifts consisted of cookies, small sweets, fruit, or handmade items.  During the Middle Ages, monasteries had access to sugar and spices that ordinary citizens couldn't get or afford easily.  So only on the most important holiday would a family indulge in these ingredients. Christmas cookies became popular because they could be made and stored for longer periods than pies and cakes. Cookies could be baked in advance, kept on hand for visitors, and given away as gifts.

The Dutch brought the first Christmas cookies to the New World in the 1600s. Interestingly, some of my ancestors came from that region during the 1600s; I wonder if they brought Christmas cookies with them.

These days, cookie exchanges and baking parties have become such a fun part of our holiday celebrations!  It is a delightful way to share time and make memories with family and friends. Some of my favorite memories are baking cookies.  I remember tying a dishtowel around Bekah as she stood on a chair to help make cookies. Another cherished memory is a cookie baking party with my sisters-in-laws. These are the gifts that are remembered long after the taste of the cookies have faded.

I love that the dry ingredients are premeasured.  With my tremors, exact measuring is becoming difficult. But with these mixes, I don't have to worry about getting too much baking soda or not enough spices in the cookies.
