Advice from a Bear

Advice from a Bear

Today's Prompt: bear

When I saw today's word, the first thing I thought of was Balu the bear, from Jungle Book, singing this song.

There are times in life when our needs overwhelm us. Those big dreams take a back seat to meet the needs of the day. At those times, we need to remember Balu's advice: "So just try and relax, yea cool it, Fall apart in my backyard."

God wants us to do just that. Relax, rest in His presence - His backyard. God says in Philippians 4:19 that if we need it, He will supply it. We can relax knowing that the bare necessities of life have been allocated to us, and He will make sure they get to us. Trust Him. As you do, what you need will come to you.

  • Psalm 116:7 Return, O my soul, to your rest; for the Lord has dealt bountifully with you.
  • Isaiah 30:15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.
  • Psalm 62:1 Truly my soul finds rest in God; my salvation comes from him.

Take a few minutes, forget about your worries and your strife. Let's sing along with Balu as praise to Jehovah Jireh-God, our Provider!  Click on the image below to go to YouTube to sing along.

Look for the bare necessities

The simple bare necessities

Forget about your worries and your strife

I mean the bare necessities

Old Mother Nature's recipes

That brings the bare necessities of life

Wherever I wander, wherever I roam

I couldn't be fonder of my big home

The bees are buzzin' in the tree

To make some honey just for me

When you look under the rocks and plants

And take a glance at the fancy ants

Then maybe try a few

The bare necessities of life will come to you

They'll come to you!

Look for the bare necessities

The simple bare necessities

Forget about your worries and your strife

I mean the bare necessities

That's why a bear can rest at ease

With just the bare necessities of life

Now when you pick a pawpaw

Or a prickly pear

And you prick a raw paw

Well, next time beware

Don't pick the prickly pear by the paw

When you pick a pear

Try to use the claw

But you don't need to use the claw

When you pick a pear of the big pawpaw;

Have I given you a clue?

The bare necessities of life will come to you

They'll come to you!

"So just try and relax, yeah cool it

Fall apart in my backyard

'Cause let me tell you something, little britches

If you act like that bee acts – uh-uh

You're working too hard

And don't spend your time lookin' around

For something you want that can't be found"

When you find out you can live without it

And go along not thinkin' about it

I'll tell you something true

The bare necessities of life will come to you

What do you need today?  I'll tell you something true, God's got you covered. The bare necessities of life will come to you, and so much more!  Somedays, we just need a silly children's song to remind us of this truth.

God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams!

Ephesians 3:20 MSG

I’ve always loved this song! We can learn a lesson from Baloo’s priorities – seek first the kingdom and God will provide all you need; don’t worry about tomorrow, each day has enough worries of its own.

Hearing the song in my head now. :) A good one, Jodee!

I’m thankful He gives us rest, Jodee, “Psalm 62:1, Truly my soul finds rest in God.”
