Folded Paper Basket

Folded Paper Basket

Paper basket

As I was updating my mailing list sign-up blurb last week, I realized I hadn't shared any projects for a while.  I found this quick and simple basket on Pinterest the other day, so I thought I'd share it with you.

Setting everything else aside and being creative for a bit, is cleansing for the soul.  This project is quick and easy and will give you a feeling of accomplishment when you're done.  That is something we all need every once in a while.

You will need a 12 x 12 piece of heavy paper.  You can use two pieces of paper and glue them together, or a heaver piece that is double sided.  I used scrapbook paper, but if you want to get really creative, decorate your own.  I saw one basket that was done by gluing pictures to the outside.

Below is the fold lines. you use.  You can use a ruler and mark the lines if you want to be exact but I just eyeball it.  If you mark your paper, use a light touch so the marks don't show up on your finished basket.

Start with the outside pattern down.  You will fold with a sharp crease into thirds. Use your finger nail or a spoon to get a good flat crease.

Turn and fold into thirds again.  You will have 9 squares when you are done.

Next flip your basket so the inside is up.  Bring the opposite corners together and crease only the outside thirds.

Now flip your paper again.  Then fold in the two diagonal corners and tape together.  Bring the remaining two in and tape them together with the ones already taped together.  Use a hole punch and punch thru all four pieces.  You can also punch the holes in each separately.

Thread a ribbon through the holes and tie.

And that is it. You have a beautiful basket.  How cute is that!

The basket can be used as a decoration or a center piece.  Place floral foam in the bottom and add some silk flowers, or fill it with candy like I did.  They also make great gift baskets.

What will you use your basket for?  Send me a picture,  I'd love to see what you have done!

Have a delightful day
