Family, Flavored Butter & DIY picks

This week has been a reminder to me of how important it is to cherish your family while you can.  Your loved ones may not be here next year for many different reasons. This blog was originally written in 2017.  I came across it while cleaning up some of my files. I thought I'd republish it so you can have new "pick thingies" for Thanksgiving to impress your sister or guests. My sister is one of the delights in my life!  That is her on the left and me on the right with the cool glasses.  Aren't we adorable!   This...

You are His Favorite Child!

Growing up. I was the favorite child.  Everybody said so - unless they said my sister was the favorite.  As a mother, each of my children has been my favorite child at some point.  As parents, we try hard not to show favoritism and make sure each child feels special, accepted, and loved.  Dr. Ellen Libby describes why it is important for each child to believe they are favored.  "These children believe that they are adored more than anyone else in the family, that they have won the quintessential prize of being the most cared for in the family...

For example, you want to go out with your friends.  You lay out all your persuasive arguments for going to your parents and their answer is no.  Just no with no explanation.  You want to know why not, so you can come up with ideas to counteract their...

Make a Valentines Day Charcuterie Board

With many of our restaurants being shut down, going out for a special Valentin's Day dinner may be difficult. There is always take-out, but it is never as good reheated.  Cooking a fancy meal is time-consuming and the clean up isn't that much fun.  So, this year we are making a charcuterie board. Charcuterie (pronounced "shahr-ku-tuh-ree") is the art of preparing and assembling cured meat and meat products.  The word, originated in France, means pork butcher shop.  The term has evolved to include other  types of food.  So now a charcuterie board is an assortment of meats, cheeses, artisan breads,...
