Last January, I walked into my kitchen and decided it was time for an update. We had lived and worked in the dark and dingy kitchen for 14 years. We had dreamed of how we wanted to remodel, opening up walls and removing the knotty pine. But on that day, I had had enough. No more waiting until we have the money for a remodel; I could do something now!
But what?
After much deliberation and prayer, I decided to start by painting the cabinets. I found a cabinet transformation kit on sale and we got started. First, we had to remove the cabinet doors and hardware. As we took down the doors from the very top cabinets we uncovered our first treasure.
Behind one of the soffits, we found a drinking glass from the 1950's and a partially smoked cigarette. On the other side, we found a box of rock crystal candy, a bottle of insect repellent, and a box of roach killer tablets. Behind some of the cabinets was vintage wallpaper, possibly from the 1920s, and an orange and brown mushroom pattern, likely from the 1930s or 40s.
In the past, when I have removed wallpaper, I have often found notes and signatures of the people who worked on the rooms. So, I started thinking about what treasure I could leave for the next person who remodels the kitchen.
I have a perfect place to leave a note and some treasure from our time.
But what should I leave? After some thought and discussion with Steve, I decided to include a grocery flier, a scriptural house blessing, and a few coins.
Here is the blessing I left.
I turned the house blessing into a PDF that you can download and use to profess a blessing over your home. It includes the scriptures also.
